Ethiopia is to host the 10th International Conference on Information and Communication Technology for Development, Education and Training next May. The Ministry of Communication and Information Technology agreed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Integrated Communications, Worldwide Events on Wednesday (October 8) for the two bodies to organize the event.

The 10th eLearning Africa Conference will take place in Addis Ababa at African Union headquarters in May next year, from May 20 to 22. Minister of Communication and Information Technology, Dr. Debretsion Gebremichael, said the conference would be a platform for Ethiopia to showcase its own achievements in the sector over the last ten years; and it would also enable the country to network with various experienced international ICT organizations.

The founder of eLearning Africa and Head of ICWE, Rebecca Stromeyer, said the conference would provide an opportunity for participants to reflect on the use of ICT in changing African Society. She welcomed the Ethiopian government's efforts to promote the use of ICT to support national development. Ethiopia was the initiator to launch and host the first e-Learning Africa conference in Africa ten years ago.

Since then, the conference has become the largest gathering of eLearning and ICT supported education and training for professionals in Africa, making it important network venue for ICT stakeholders from across the world. 1500 participants, including ministers, policy makers, regulators, service providers, major users and university representatives from 68 countries are expected to participate.
