Kenya: First Pan African Women-in-Tech Meetup Set for August
Source: CIO East Africa
Source Date: Monday, July 21, 2014
Country: Kenya
Created: Jul 23, 2014

The first Pan- African Women in Tech meet-up is set to take place on August 2, 2014.

The virtual event will be supported by simultaneous live viewing sessions in selected cities Uganda, South Africa and Ghana.

The event is in recognition of the fact that working in technology can, at times, be an isolating experience for women, especially in Africa. The impact of this can limit women's professional growth in the sector. Women need mentors, role-models and a network to share their experiences, challenges and skills. The event is therefore set to enable the women in technology to compare their challenges, learn from other countries and connect across borders to expand the influence.

Among the key speakers will be: Wabei Walusiku from Accenture (Zambia); Victoria Mbabazi from Uganda and Enyonam Kumho the CEO of Thoughtworks Africa, Ghana.

The inaugural pan African meet-up has been organised by Women in Tech Ghana, Women in Tech Zambia, Women in Tech Uganda, and Girls in ICT Rwanda.

The planning team also comprises of Ethel Cofie, a tech-preneur who is the founder of Women in Tech Ghana; Ethel Ella Mbewe who is the co-founder of AsikanaNetwork, Ghana and Akaliza Keza Gara, a member of Girls in ICT, Rwanda. Others are Barbara Birungi, the founder of Women in Tech, Uganda and Chisenga Muyoya who runs Women in Tech Zambia.
