Crane bank has signed up to a new software system, Temenos T24, which aims to bolster its service delivery and security applications.

Officials from the bank and Temenos Group AG said the software would be installed into Crane bank's branch network in Uganda and Rwanda over the next 11 months.

Addressing a joint press conference held at Crane Chambers in Kampala, Crane Bank Managing Director A R Kalan said Temenos would provide them with a solid platform to manage growth efficiently, with the best risk management tools and business intelligence.

"The [new] platform will quickly and cost-effectively deliver new products and services as we grow and serve our customers in Uganda and regionally," Kalan explained.

He said Temenos would go live at their newly opened branch in Kigali, Rwanda by early 2014. The bank's branch network in Uganda - currently at 34 - will have Temenos software installed by October 2014, Kalan added.

With this new software, all Crane bank customers won't need passwords or pin numbers to access their accounts. They will only use a thumb once the ATM Interface servers are installed at electronic cash points. The bank will soon start capturing its customers' biometrics to effect the software
