South Africa: Private and Public Sectors Announce First Ever Joint Dialogue Session
Source: allAfrica.com
Source Date: Tuesday, October 01, 2013
Focus: Institution and HR Management
Country: South Africa
Created: Oct 01, 2013

Under-developed production structures and inadequate infrastructure have produced a lot of scope for mutually beneficial partnerships, specifically within the BRICS community, which will create the much-needed infrastructure in Africa to ensure sustainable economic development on the continent.
South African law defines a public-private partnership as a contract between a public sector institution and a private party, in which the private party assumes a substantial financial, technical and operational risk in the design, financing, building, and operation of a project.
"The private sector has much to offer in terms of financial resources, people skills and experience as an investment in public infrastructure and services," says Kogan Pillay, who heads up the SADC PPP Network. "It is through these collaborations that public and private sectors can both achieve their goals to the benefit of everyone in the region."
"We are excited to be partnering with the SADC PPP Network on this Public-Private Dialogue," says Lynette Chen, CEO of the NBF. "The partnership with SADC 3P and the PPD represents innovative ways in which the private sector can tangibly get involved in long-standing public sector projects. Through the Africa Infrastructure Desk, the NBF will be able to meaningfully attract infrastructure project players where these opportunities are."
Amongst the delegates, senior government officials, investors, legal and financial advisors, and senior industry representatives interested in exploring PPP opportunities are expected to attend.
