South Africa: Denosa Welcomes the Service Charter
Source: DENOSA National Page
Source Date: Thursday, September 12, 2013
Country: South Africa
Created: Sep 12, 2013

Under article 6 in the Charter, the state commits to, among others, create an enabling environment within the provisions of available resources for public servants to perform their duties; implement conditions of service that fairly reward public servants; introduce systems and processes that facilitate citizens' access to government services; and to simplify procedures and ease formalities related to access and delivery of services.
Under article 7, public servants commit to, among others, honour the Constitution and abide by the laws in the execution of duties; loyally execute the policies of government in the performance of duties; Be polite, helpful and reasonably accessible in dealing with the public, at all times treating members of the public as customers who are entitled to receive high standards of service; respect and protect every person's dignity and rights as contained in the Constitution; and demonstrate professionalism, competency, excellence, transparency and impartiality in the performance of official duties.
As far as nurses are concerned, the charter is keeping up with the same spirit of the pledge of service that nurses make when they enter the profession, which says among others, “The total health of my patients will be my first consideration,”, and that “I will not permit consideration of religion, nationality, race or social standing to intervene between my duty and my patient.” End
Issued by the Democratic Nursing Organisation of South Africa (DENOSA)
