The initiative is aimed at addressing absenteeism of girls in schools by providing 278 teachers in three district municipalities training in adoloscent reproductive health and puberty education with the purpose of educating young girls. More than 3750 girls in 139 schools received training in adoloscent reproductive health and puberty eduction and each girl received regular supply of sanitary towels. Sanitation infrastructure in schools was upgraded or new facilities built and incidents of absenteeism in the targeted schools dropped from 20% to 5%.
Some schools reported a significant decrease in the number of teen pregnancies after the implementation of the programme.
