Dodoma — The Deputy Minister for Communications, Science and Technology, Mr January Makamba has reiterated the government's commitment to improve mobile communication technology not only for economic gains but also for security reasons.
He was responding to a basic question by Mr Albert Obama Ntabaliba (Manyovu- CCM), who wanted to know when the government will build towers in Manyovu to improve mobile phone communications.
"There will not be empty promises on the matter. The government has allocated 173,000 US dollars for that purpose. Through the Universal Communication Fund a mobile phone company has been identified to make sure that the job is accomplished satisfactorily," Makamba explained.
He pledged to visit Manyovu which borders with Burundi for inspection of the area to make sure that the project starts as planned to the convenience of subscribers. The deputy minister made it clear that any communication company assigned to reach certain areas and perhaps refuse or fail to do so risks revocation of the allocated frequencies.
Earlier, Mr Peter Serukamba (Kigoma Urban-CCM) asked the government to follow closely the degree of adherence by some of the mobile phone companies which happen to win tenders but fail to oblige.
