The religious delegation was led by Rev. Ray McCauley and Rev. Desmond Lambrechts, representing NICSA and the NRSDA respectively.

 

Motlanthe was accompanied by the Minister in the Presidency for Performance Monitoring and Evaluation, Collins Chabane; Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan; Deputy Minister of Finance Nhlanhla Nene; Deputy Minister of Transport Sindisiwe Chikunga, as well as the Directors-General of the departments represented in the Inter-Ministerial Committee.

 

In the meeting, the Deputy President explained that the IMC will brief Cabinet on the issues raised during the consultation process in order to find an amicable solution to the current challenges concerning the GFIP.

 

Cabinet will consider all issues raised by the stakeholders in deciding on the way forward on the project.

 

Consultations are continuing and more meetings between government, key stakeholders and interested parties are planned for the coming weeks.

 

The GFIP was conceived as part of a strategy to solve the problem of severe congestion on the Gauteng freeways.
