MP Boosts ICT at Bantama Constituency

RS. CECILIA Abena Dapaah, Member of Parliament for Bantama Constituency in Kumasi, has presented a computer each to 25 institutions, including basic and second cycle schools in her constituency, to enhance ICT education. The beneficiaries include the Sofoline Police station, Bantama Sub-Metro Education Office, Bantamahene's Palace and the NPP constituency Secretariat, as well as the Islamic SHS, Philips Commercial SHS and the Kumasi Girls SHS. Other beneficiaries include Akosa M/A JHS, Bantama M/A JHS, Bantama M/A Islamic primary schools at Bantama, Adumanu, Ampaabame, Bohyen, Abrepo and Ohwim. The computers, being the first batch of consignment under the package for schools in the Bantama constituency, cost GHc37, 500.00 to procure from the MPs Special Fund. According to the Bantama Legislator, a second batch of 40 computers is expected to be distributed to other schools, as soon as funds are available. She said the motive is to enhance effective teaching and learning in ICT. She has also pledged to provide stabilizers for the computers supplied to the schools. The MP warned against the use of the computer for cyber fraud and engaging in indecent browsing. Mrs. Dapaah also presented 10 trophies, plated in gold and silver, to the Bantama Sub Metro Directorate of Education,to encourage excellence in the various sporting disciplines, engaged in by the schools in the constituency, during the inter-school competitions. The Bantama Sub Metro Directorate of Education and Kumasi Girls SHS were each allocated one trophy, while the rest would be supplied to selected schools for quiz and sports competitions. The Bantamahene, Baffour Asare Owusu Amankwatia V, who presided over the presentation ceremony held at his palace, commended the MP for facilitating ICT in the schools, and appealed to authorities to ensure that the Bantama M/A primary school is upgraded to a JHS level. The donation of 10 trophies brings to 20, the number of trophies donated by the MP, at the cost of GHc8,000.00. DSP Cosmos A. Damoah, District Police Commander, on behalf of the recipients thanked the MP for the donation and assured that they would be put to good use, to advance the course for which they were donated. Mr. Kwesi Essuon Nunoo, Sub Metro Director of Education, received the trophies from Mrs. Dapaah at a short ceremony last Friday. Meanwhile, Mrs. Dapaah is compiling a list of all teachers in the Bantama constituency for the Institution of a 'Best Teacher Award'.
