“I indicated in Parliament that there are other incentives to deal with issues concerning civil servants. It is not enough but it is good enough to improve the situation at the moment.” Said Chamisa.

Government hopes to loan each civil servant about US$7 000 to purchase a vehicle of their choice, repayable at five percent interest per annum over 10 years.

Mariyawanda Nzuwa, the chairperson of PSC, told the Parliamentary Committee on Public Service recently that much needed to be done to address the plight of civil servants, among them the issue of transport and housing.

He said part of the solution in addressing the plight of civil servants was for the government to give land and car loans to civil servants, among other schemes.

In a bid to provide affordable housing, President Robert Mugabe earlier this month commissioned five blocks of flats in Willowyale near Highfield, which will accommodate 80 families.
