The Citizen Reporter Dar es Salaam. The government says it is in the process of formulating laws and regulations that will curb the misuse of science and technology that can threaten national security.
Communications, Science and Technology minister Makame Mbarawa said there was a need to regulate information obtained from the Internet so that it does not negatively influence those who use it.
“We want to ensure that innovations that come up with science and technology are used for the good of our nation. We will ensure that students in our colleges are prepared to face the challenges of advancement once they start working in various sectors,” Prof Mbarawa said.
He said it was through education that the students and the general public were supposed to understand the importance of the appropriate use of the Internet and how it had helped to transform lives of people in other countries. Prof Mbarawa made the remarks on Tuesday in a meeting with Information and Communication Technology (ICT) experts from various institutions at the Bank of Tanzania (BOT) conference hall.
The minister said all district headquarters in the country should be connected to the Internet.
, but insisted on the proper usage of the communication tool.
The meeting, which was also attended by the deputy minister Charles Kitwanga, resolved to make sure that ICT was used to create jobs as part of efforts to alleviate poverty.
