The meeting, which was held earlier this week, comes after the 65-year-old's recent release from 15 years of house arrest, International Relations spokesperson Clayson Monyela said.
"During the meeting, Aung San Suu Kyi hailed South Africa's great moral authority as an inspiration to those striving for democracy and expressed hope that people would take a leaf from South Africa,” said Monyela.
The Nobel laureate Suu Kyi was released on 13 November, after spending 15 of the past 21 years in some form of detention because of her fight against military dictatorship.
The largely Buddhist South East Asian country has been under military rule since 1962. In 1990, military rulers refused to hand over power when Suu Kyi's party won the elections with a landslide victory. – BuaNews
