Haiti is struggling to recover from a devastating earthquake earlier this year.
“As South Africa is a responsible global player, we deem it fit to join these efforts to save life and the entire humanity in Haiti,” said Fransman said.
He also called on South Africans to find a way to help the people of Haiti who found themselves in dire situations.
The department has already made significant contributions to helping out Haiti, forking out R1 million for search and rescue operations after the earthquake and a further R2.1 million for humanitarian assistance activities.
A partnership between government, private sector and the civil society also pledged to contribute a further R5 million to the reconstruction efforts of Haiti.
A major South African company also contributed R5 million to a civil society organisation that was involved in relief efforts in Haiti, the department said. - BuaNews
