The conference, convened by the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, African Development Bank, and the African Union, is scheduled to take place in Addis Ababa on 13 and 14 August.
The ministers are expected to develop a proposal for a continental Medium-Term Regional Civil Registration and Vital Statistical Plan for recommendation and adoption by the African Union Heads of State and Government, said the department.
Other key issues to be discussed include the legal, administrative and statistical purposes and functions of civil registration and vital statistics system.
The management and operation of civil registration; the generation and use of health and demographic statistics and the challenges and opportunities for improved civil registration will also be talking points at the conference.
Another aspect that will occupy the ministers’ attention during the conference is the importance of recording causes of death, as well as the compiling, processing and preparing of national causes of death classification.
The conference will be preceded by a meeting of experts from the continent who will make recommendation to the ministers at the conference for discussion and ratification. – BuaNews
