During the visit, the Heads of State are expected to discuss bilateral cooperation and regional and multilateral matters. They are further expected to share and exchange views on political development in the region.
At least one bilateral agreement is expected to be signed during the state visit, including the Memorandum of Understanding in Economic Cooperation.
The agenda of the African Union and the reform of institutions such as the United National Security Council will also fall under the spotlight as well as the finalisation of the agreement on Phase II of the Lesotho Highlands Water Project.
The project was started in 1986 as a joint venture to supply water to South Africa, especially the rapidly growing urban population of Gauteng, and to meet Lesotho’s electricity needs. The project delivers about 780 million m3 of water to South Africa per year. It is regarded as Africa’s largest transfer project as well as the largest ongoing bi-national construction project.
Other important projects South Africa is currently involved in is the construction of the Metolong Dam and the Sani Pass Road. South Africa has already contributed R100 million to Lesotho for these projects, a demonstration of the significance South Africa places on assisting Lesotho in its economic development.
While in Lesotho, Zuma will address a joint sitting of the Lesotho Parliament and visit the Katse Dam, which supplies a significant amount of water to South Africa.
The President will be accompanied by several government ministers and a business delegation, which will participate in a two-say business workshop. The workshop will focus of the hospitality, construction, baking, retail, mining food and beverages sectors. - BuaNews
