UAE Government is participating in the 9th GCC eGovernment Committee commencing tomorrow at the headquarters of the Secretariat General of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (GCC) in Riyadh.

Salem Khamis Al Shair Al Suwaidi, Director General, Emirates eGovernment is heading the UAE delegation. The committee meeting, which will be held on November 29 and 30, is an important step towards unifying the eTransformation and eGovernment programmes in the GCC countries. This meeting is a preparatory meeting for the first ministerial eGovernment committee of the GCC countries.

Salem Al Suwaidi, said, “We are pleased to be part of the joint efforts of the GCC countries through a vital field which is the eGovernment. The future of eGovernment in the GCC countries is governed by common objectives and goals. I am sure that these elements will inspire the efforts of eTransformation in the GCC countries.”

“Joint efforts in the field of eGovernment in the GCC countries have succeeded because of the support and directions of the leadership of each country. We, in the UAE, are aware of the importance of joint efforts especially that we celebrate the 40th anniversary of our Union which was founded by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and his great brothers, the rulers of the emirates. The journey continues with his successor, H. H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan,” he added.

During the preparatory meeting, the committee will make recommendations for the first eGovernment ministerial committee meeting in the first quarter of 2012. Recommendations will include suggestions for forming committees and technical teams that need to be formed in light of the responsibilities of the ministerial committee and the tasks of each committee and team. Recommendations also include a work plan and a timetable to achieve integration among GCC countries in addition to formulating a joint declaration in the field of eGovernment.

The committee will discuss the second eGovernment conference which was held in Kuwait earlier this month and will present a full report about the Conference and the Award to the ministerial committee.

The meeting will also discuss other topics related to eGovernment services and how to develop joint efforts in this regard. It will also prepare the agenda of the first ministerial committee of the eGovernment.

Emirates eGovernment works in line with the strategy of the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority, and is responsible for formulating and overseeing the implementation of the eGovernment strategy on the federal level, ensuring robust shared infrastructure for federal government entities, and enhanced government services.
