Bahrain National Oil and Gas Authority (Noga) has launched the “Gasoline Octane Inquiry” eService in co-operation with the Kingdom's eGovernment Authority (eGA).

This is the first eService for Noga to be launched through the eGovernment portal (www.bahrain.bh).

The new service allows citizens, residents and visitors in the Kingdom to view information about the Gasoline Octane characteristics and be able to use the correct vehicle fuel - regular or premium depending on the car model and manufacturer.

Besides it will also help identify if people are using the correct fuel type (Jayyid) or (Mumtaz) in relation to the octane number and the difference between premium and regular gasoline sold at gas stations in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

Commenting on the new service, Jassim Isa Al Shirawi, general manager, National Oil & Gas Affairs at Noga said: “Through this service recently launched on www.bahrain.bh, we call upon all consumers to use the type of fuel as recommended by the manufacturer in order to reduce consumption burdens of the consumer using higher-octane fuel.”

He pointed out that the 95 Octane Mumtaz costs 100 fils per liter and the 91 Octane Jayyid costs only 80 fils/liter.

“About 74 per cent of cars in the Kingdom are Japanese and 63 per cent are designed to run on regular fuel which contains 90-91 octane. Consumers can annuallly save BD120 ($318) by opting for regular type and the engine still runs efficiently with full power,” he added.

Al Shirawi, citing statistics released by Bapco, said the consumption of the premium fuel is continuously and steadily growing compared to the regular fuel which puts additional burden on the refining capacity of Bahrain’s refinery.

"To use this eService, please visit the eGovernment portal (www.bahrain.bh) and click on “Gasoline Octane Inquiry for vehicles” to inquire about the suitable fuel type for your vehicle and list of car dealers," said the official.

The site will also give information about the octane number, the difference between Jayid and Mumtaz, and the importance of choosing the correct type of gasoline for your car.

"In addition the customers will also get the opportunity to participate in Noga’s survey and win a free-fuel voucher, he added.
