, launched this Wednesday, 21 December, the UN Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) predicts a slowdown of growth in the region in 2012, due to global economic turbulence, in particular in developed countries.

Despite the global economic downturn, the economy of the Latin American and Caribbean region grew 5.9% in 2010 and is expected to climb by 4.4% this year. To ensure continued progress, these regions must now turn such growth into sustainable economic and social development, according to OECD and

Climate change is estimated to cost countries in the Caribbean subregion up to 5% of annual GDP between 2011 and 2050, if actions for mitigating and adaptation are not pursued, according to the ECLAC report

According to the
Economic Survey of Latin America and the Caribbean 2010-2011
, in 2011 Latin America and the Caribbean will maintain the recovery that began in the second half of 2009 following the international economic crisis, and will grow by 4.7% thanks to the boost of internal demand. Further, this ECLAC report points out that this growth implies a 3.6% rise in per capital GDP, and declares that the current situation calls for close attention to be paid to the macroeconomic policy challenges that will be facing the region. In the latest edition of the joint publication
The Employment Situation in Latin America and the Caribbean
, the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) and the International Labour Organization (ILO) analysed labour trends in the region, as well as the counter-cyclical policies implemented by some countries during the recent international crisis. According to ECLAC and ILO, the strong economic recovery of Latin America and the Caribbean will make it possible to bring down unemployment significantly from 7.3% in 2010 to between 6.7% and 7.0% in 2011. El presente artículo aborda la experiencia del Trabajo Social en el ámbito Jurídico en un contexto de transformación y cambio, donde la disciplina junto con revisar y redefinir algunas de sus prácticas en esta área, ha debido revisar su posición frente al tema y definir de qué manera la disciplina aportará y responderá a los requerimientos nuevos del sistema judicial, en tanto procesos de alta complejidad y en términos de exigencias académicas y de formación temática. En este sentido, este artículo pretende abrir el tema e invitar a la reflexión y análisis del quehacer del Trabajo Social en contexto de transformación, principalmente, con miras hacia el descubrimiento de nuevos espacios de desarrollo y estudio, y la creación de propuestas y estrategias propias del Trabajo Social.

A perspectiva histórico-crítica na pesquisa social
Este texto aborda a polêmica acerca da contemporaneidade ou crise dos paradigmas clássicos nas ciências sociais e suas distintas orientações teóricas que fundamentam a leitura da realidade. Esse debate é intrínseco tanto à investigação científica quanto à intervenção profissional com a busca ou negação de uma postura crítica, assim como a historicidade do social e a de mudança ou afirmação do status quo, por meio do exercício da investigação na pesquisas social e na prática profissional. A convicção firmada é a de que, seja na construção do conhecimento científico pelas ciências sociais, seja como referencial de uma prática ético-potítica emancipatória, a teoria social crítica é a única capaz de estabelecer as interrogações relacionadas às contradições fundamentais entre o capitalismo e a democracia, sob o liberalismo, apreendendo o real concreto e a verdade, em essência, para além da aparência, que estes antagonismos encerram na estrutura da vida.

Desafíos actuales de la práctica en la relación directa con los sujetos sociales
La propuesta de reflexión que hacemos ocupa dos momentos. El primero aborda la práctica del Trabajo Social desde lo local y las experiencias de participación social o de cogestión de la cosa pública. El segundo, la relación de esta práctica profesional con los lineamientos de las políticas sociales dirigidas a la indigencia o extrema pobreza, con los programas de transferencias monetarias con corresponsabilidades. Cabe mencionar que esta reflexión surge de nuestra práctica profesional actual de intervención en el ámbito público, en la Secretaría de Acción Social de la Nación de Paraguay, y de docencia en la Universidad Nacional de Asunción. Es importante advertir que la tendencia de los programas sociales a repetir los modelos más clásicos de trabajo, propios del desarrollo y organización comunitaria, asume nuevos ropajes en la línea del llamado desarrollo territorial o local, entre otras denominaciones. La misma se expresa en la promoción y el acompañamiento de proyectos de asistencia y promoción social, conteniendo elementos de inclusión social y económica.
