The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) and the Government of Germany agreed on January 26, in Berlin through a convention signed by both parties that the new joint cooperation programme for the period 2016-2018 will be dedicated to support the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in the region.

Latin American and Caribbean Growth Projection for 2015 and 2016

Latin American and Caribbean economies will contract -0.4% on average in 2015 and will grow just 0.2% next year, affected by a complex external scenario, according to new projections unveiled today by Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC).

The Latin American Economic Outlook 2016 Launched
Latin America’s GDP growth slowdown deepened and is expected to be negative in 2015. For a second consecutive year, Latin America falls behind the average growth of OECD countries after a full decade of convergence with advanced economies, according to the Latin American Economic Outlook 2016.

Recapping this Year through the Lens of ECLAC
The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) published in 2015 diverse studies regarding the economic, social and environmental situation in the region, including six flagship annual reports that provided statistical information, timely analysis and short- and medium-term outlooks on issues as varied as the expansion of Gross Domestic Product (GDP), the behavior of foreign investment and international trade, and the evolution of poverty and inequality.

South Africa: President, Deputy President to Attend SADC Summit
President Jacob Zuma is expected to travel to Gaborone, Botswana next week to attend the Extra-Ordinary Summit of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Double Troika. Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa will also attend the summit in his capacity as the SADC-appointed Facilitator on Lesotho. Earlier this week, the Deputy President was in Maseru for a working visit as part of his SADC mandate to assist the Kingdom.

South Africa: Panel Calls for Inputs on its Programme
The independent high-level panel set up to assess key legislation passed by Parliament since 1994 is inviting the public to make inputs on its programme. The public has until July 20 to respond to the call and submit input on four focal areas namely: the review of legislation; assessment on the implementation of legislation; identifying gaps in legislation as well as proposing action steps that impact on specific areas of legislation. The 17-member panel, which is chaired by former President Kgalema Motlanthe, was appointed in January by the Speakers Forum led by National Assembly Speaker Baleka Mbete and National Council of Provinces Chairperson Thandi Modise.

Kenya: Nairobi to Host Largest Africa Agriculture Conference in September
Kenya will host the African green revolution forum conference in September. The 5th forum brings together Africa agriculture stakeholders to discuss how to advance policies and secure investments in the continent. Speaking during a press conference on Tuesday, Agriculture CS Willy Bett said agriculture directly contributes to about 30 per cent of the GDP and another 25 per cent indirectly.
