E-Dialogues on Democratic Development Talk (virtually) with World-Leading Experts
Start Date: Sep 04, 2012
End Date: Oct 12, 2012
Venue: Online - Public Service Without Borders Platform
Description: On September 4, 2012, the Institute of Public Administration of Canada (IPAC) will launch the first of six e-Dialogues for Democratic Development to be delivered through its social collaborative platform Public Service Without Borders.

Public servants and development experts from Canada and around the world will be offered a unique opportunity to engage directly with world-leading experts on public administration and international development. Through the e-Dialogues, IPAC hopes to provide a two-way street for developing leading-edge thinking on international development. Learn from and help shape ideas that will influence the next decade of global public sector reform.

IPAC is pleased to announce that Madame Jocelyn Bourgon will host the inaugural e-Dialogue from September 4th to 14th.  Mme Bourgon will be exploring, with you, how the ideas set out in her ground-breaking new book, A New Synthesis of Public Administration: Serving in the 21st Century, can influence our thinking and approaches about international development.

From October 1st to 12th, Nick Manning of the World Bank will be canvassing your thoughts and ideas on the way in which development institutions can best support developing countries to improve public sector performance.  Nick has played a leading role in producing The World Bank’s Approach to Public Sector Management 2011-2020: Better Results from Public Sector Institutions.  This publication offers a frank look at the limitations of past approaches to public sector reform and proposes a major shift in the World Bank’s future role.

Four more e-Dialogues will be announced over the coming months.  A publication synthesizing the results will follow.  If you are new to Public Service Without Borders, REGISTER for an account now.  Then mark your calendars and join in the discussion starting on September 4.

Pswb.net is a secure, cloud-enabled, social collaboration platform that enables individuals in the public sector and international development community to network, share documents, engage with peers and change how public servants collaborate.  PSWB was developed through a partnership, exemplifying good corporate citizenship, with Open Text which demonstrates its commitment to strengthening public sector capacity.  IPAC would like to thank the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) for funding the e-Dialogues through its Deployment for Democratic Development program.
More details about the e-Dialogues will follow soon.
