Call for Papers: Second AMEPPA and SESAME Conference

The Association for Middle Eastern Public Policy and Administration (AMEPPA) and ASPA's Section on Effective and Sound Administration in the Middle East (SESAME) is pleased to announce the convening of its Second Conference on November 14 and 15, 2013, at Atilim University in Ankara, Turkey. The conference is also the Second Global Conference on Public Policy and Administration on the Middle East.

We are asking scholars both in the Middle East and around the world to participate in this important conference and be part of a scholarly movement dedicated to public service and public interest in the Middle East. Professionals and academics from all countries and territories and of all nationalities are welcome to participate as presenters (upon acceptance of an abstract or panel) and as conference attendees.

UNPAN-AP Editorial Department Observes 2012 International Day for Natural Disaster Reduction
  The International Day for Natural Disaster Reduction (IDDR) is commemorated on 13 October. The theme of the 2012 IDDR is "Women and Girls - the [in]Visible Force of Resilience". To observe this special event, UNPAN-AP Editorial Department collects about 80 documents with an aim of raising people's awareness in disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation process. The series of documents, mainly composed of country profiles, case studies, and analytical reports, show active involvements of governments from all countries in policy, planning and implementation processes for disaster reduction.

South Africa: Primary Health Care (PHC) Re-Engineering Provincial Task Team Established to Provide Leadership and Review Progress
Functional coordinating structures of Primary Health Care (PHC) re-engineering are in place at Districts and Sub-Districts. The North West PHC re-engineering costed plan has been developed to implement the three streams, i.e. School Health services, Specialist team, and Ward based outreach teams. Training has been standardised by National and phase one which is orientation and basic foundation, is provided by a contracted service provider and funded through conditional grants. Speaking during his budget speech, MEC Magome Masike said that PHC Re-engineering communication strategy is already in place. “We have started marketing the programme through community dialogues where 18 sub-districts participated. We will further strengthen social mobilisation through community dialogues, ward and cluster meetings, the media and other marketing initiatives” said MEC Masike.

South Africa: The National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) Offers Free Grants
The National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) will in the near future start dishing out free money to youth entrepreneurs. Briefing the media in Johannesburg yesterday, NYDA chairman Yershen Pillay said grant finance will range between R1000 and R100000. "The NYDA will no longer be offering loan finance to young entrepreneurs. "Instead there will be grant finance in the form of micro-finance grants for survivalist youth entrepreneurship and cooperative grants for greater participation of youth in the cooperative sector.

South Africa: Motlanthe Hails 15th African Renaissance Conference as ‘Historic’
Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe has hailed the 15th African Renaissance Conference as a “historic event”, as it coincides with the 50th anniversary of the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), the forerunner of the African Union (AU). The OAU was founded on 25 May 1963 by the post-colonial African nations in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The aim of the OAU was to steamroll the total liberation of the African continent from colonialism and the forging of continental unity. Motlanthe said he believed that during this anniversary of the OAU, the 15th African Renaissance Conference was an ideal platform for some reflection on the pros and cons of the African Renaissance in its right as a mobilising vision.
